The Clear Alternative to Braces

The Invisalign® system uses a series of clear aligners to gradually straighten the teeth.  The aligners are custom-made to fit your mouth comfortably.

To begin Invisalign® treatment, you will visit our office in Las Vegas to be fitted for your first set of aligners. During this visit, Jason L. Downey, DDS, will make molds of your teeth and mouth to plan your treatment.

The molds and treatment plan will be sent to the Invisalign® laboratory, where technicians will custom-craft your aligners. They will use advanced computer software to craft a full set of aligners, each of which will sequentially guide your teeth toward their ideal positions.

Your first set of aligners will be ready about two weeks after your initial appointment; each subsequent set will be provided by your dentist.  Simply wear your aligners day and night, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss, and change out the aligners every two weeks.

Throughout Invisalign® treatment, you will visit our office near Summerlin for periodic checkups.  When worn as directed, many patients achieve results in as little as six months to a year!

After completing Invisalign® treatment, many patients choose to polish their smiles with tooth whitening for a dazzling smile.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

Most Invisalign cases take between 6 months and 18 months. Each case requires a different time frame since there are a variety of factors at play, including severity of the case, consistency in wearing the aligners, and even a person’s age. But most of our Invisalign cases have been between 10-14 months to complete your new smile.

Fun Fact: several medical peer assessments have shown that Invisalign can transform your smile nearly 5 months faster than traditional metal braces! In fact, I’ve had some patients that have completed their treatment in as little as 5 months.

How Does Invisalign Actually Work?

Here’s an overview of how Invisalign treatment works:

  • Orthodontic Consultation: The first step is to come in for an in-depth evaluation in our Spring Valley office. This allows us to get a closer look at your teeth, create a custom treatment plan towards your new smile, and answer any question about the process you may have.
  • Second Appointment: We’ll take a digital impression of your teeth and photos of your teeth and smile that will allow us to engineer your very first set of custom aligners. The digital impression is then sent off to a specialized lab to craft your aligners.
  • Your Invisalign aligners are ready! You will wear your first set of Invisalign aligners typically for 1-2 weeks before moving on to the next set. Each set comes with slight adjustments that continually shift your teeth into proper alignment. You will wear your aligners all day and night except when you are brushing your teeth, or flossing (that’s important!).
  • Regular Check Up. We schedule consistent check-ins to make sure that everything is on track with your treatment plan. Any adjustments required will be made during these visits.
  • Your New Smile…Is Here! Once your Invisalign treatment has finished, it’s time to celebrate! We’ll snap some quick photos, dance around the office, and then provide you with 4 sets of custom retainers that will help ensure that your teeth stay nice and straight for years to come. You will wear these retainers full time for 6 months, then just at night from then on.

What Do I Have To Do?

From a patient’s perspective, there are really only 3 primary things you need to focus on during Invisalign treatment:

Consistently Wear Your Aligners. Failure to wear your aligners is what delays most Invisalign cases. Plan on wearing your aligners every day and night except when brushing or flossing.
Maintain Good Oral Health. Keeping your teeth and gums healthy and strong is important before getting Invisalign (can’t start treatment with cavities or gum disease) and during Invisalign. Brushing and flossing daily along with regular exams every 6 months is your recipe for success.
Keep Your Appointments. The final step to success is to prioritize your regular Invisalign appointments. These are vital in helping you stick to your treatment plan, confirm progress via technology, and make any necessary adjustments.

Does Invisalign Treatment Hurt?

Invisalign treatment is considered by most to be much more comfortable than traditional metal braces. There are no bulky brackets or metal wires that break loose and wreak havoc on the inside of your mouth.

However, there may be some discomfort you experience as you start treatment because the aligners are designed to incrementally shift the alignment of your teeth. But most describe this as a pressure or tightness rather than a sharp pain. If it persists, typically some over-the-counter pain relievers will do the trick. Additionally, with each new set of aligners the discomfort tends to decrease.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Just as each patient’s teeth are unique, each Invisalign treatment plan will also be unique. Generally speaking, the price of Invisalign typically ranges between $4500 – $6000. If you have a dental insurance plan that covers traditional braces, then it might also cover part of your Invisalign treatment. (If you don’t know, call our office and we’d be happy to check on that for you).

In addition, we also provide financing options and a payment plan to help break up the total amount into more manageable monthly payments. We’ve had several patients achieve their goal of a bright new smile with installments that are less than many new car payments.
