Transform Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are tiny porcelain shells that fit over the front surfaces of teeth, completely concealing flaws such as discoloration, chips, and misalignment.  Veneers are crafted from translucent tooth-colored porcelain that is remarkably durable.

Our lab technicians custom-design each patient’s veneers to complement his or her unique smile and facial features.  Once in place, porcelain veneers look and feel indistinguishable from natural teeth.

Porcelain Veneer Placement

Typically, placing porcelain veneers requires two visits to our office in Las Vegas after the initial consultation.

During the first visit, Dr. Downey will begin by applying a local anesthetic.  Next he will shave down a small portion of tooth enamel to accommodate the veneers.  Then he will take an impression of your teeth and mouth, which he will send to the dental laboratory, technicians will custom-craft your porcelain veneers.  Finally, he will place attractive temporary veneers, which you will wear for about two weeks, which is when your permanent veneers will be ready.

When the porcelain veneers are ready, you will return to our office for the second visit to have them placed. The dentist will begin this visit by administering a local anesthetic.  He will carefully remove the temporary veneers and place the permanent ones. He will then use special cement to bond the veneers firmly to your teeth.

Finally, he will buff the veneers to a shine, so you can leave our office with a brand flawless smile!  With proper care, veneers will give your smile a natural-looking brilliance for years to come!

FAQ

What Are The Benefits of Veneers?

There are many benefits to porcelain veneers. Here are some of the ones I feel are most important to consider:

  • Dramatic Results With Zero Downtime: Dental veneers are a fantastic cosmetic option to drastically improve the appearance of your smile…without enduring several months of treatment. While it will probably take some time to get used to the feeling of veneers, there is no lengthy recovery period.
  • Natural Appearance: Porcelain veneers also blend in extremely well with your surrounding teeth, making them virtually impossible to detect. Because each veneer can be customized according to shape, size, and color, your veneers will look just like your natural teeth but better! No one will have to know.
  • Resolve a Wide Range of Cosmetic Issues: Porcelain veneers provide a fantastic solution to covering up gaps in your smile, any stains or discoloration, cracks running down your teeth, gummy smiles, misaligned teeth and more. Veneers are essentially a cosmetic swiss-army knife.
  • Durability: As you treat your porcelain veneers like your normal teeth (proper oral hygiene and avoiding using your teeth as a bottle opener or to chomp on hard foods), your veneers will last 15-20 years.
  • No Special Care / Treat Like Normal Teeth: What’s also great about veneers is that you simply treat them like all of your other teeth. You do not need to adjust any of your daily habits to care for veneers. Simply brush twice a day, floss daily, and have regular dental exams each 6 months.

What Are Veneers?

Dental Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are custom made to fit right over your teeth to dramatically improve the look of your smile. Veneers are often used to cover up stains, gaps between teeth, misalignment, worn down teeth, and cracks. Porcelain veneers are engineered to blend in seamlessly with your surrounding teeth, with the ability to customize the shape, size, and color of each veneer. They are also stain resistant from things like coffee, tea, and tobacco, giving you a bright smile for years to come.

Are Veneers Right For Me?

A great candidate for dental veneers is someone who already has healthy teeth and gums but is looking to improve the look of their smile by overcoming minor dental issues that are primarily cosmetic in nature. Even small changes made with porcelain veneers can have a major impact. The most common issues that veneers can help correct include:

  • Uneven and irregularly shaped teeth
  • Misalignments
  • Chips and cracks
  • Worn out teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Gaps in teeth
  • Decayed enamel
  • Uneven or imbalanced gumline

For example, I treat a lot of patients that would simply like to improve the width and shape of their teeth. Veneers are a great way to fill out the look of your teeth, resulting in a more pleasing smile shape that takes a smile from good to stunning. Here’s a few examples of that:

Historically dental veneers required shaping or grinding down your existing teeth. With our advanced training and improvements in veneer materials we can often make veneers that fit entirely over the top of your natural teeth. This means no shots, and no drilling to get veneers! While not everyone is a good candidate for no-prep veneers it is much more common now than you might think. Be sure to ask if you are a candidate for no prep. Even if you are not a candidate for no prep veneers the amount of shaving of your teeth is much less than what used to be required and they don’t require as much tooth removal as a dental crown. This means the amount of discomfort is minimal.

How Do I Maintain Veneers?

The short answer is to care for your veneers just like your normal teeth – brushing and flossing daily, thorough cleaning and exam every 6 months. This also means avoiding the urge to bite down on hard foods (ice cubes, nut shells, hard candy, etc) and completely steering clear of using your teeth as a bottle opener! The better you take care of your veneers, the longer they will last.

What Is The Cost of Veneers?

The price of porcelain veneers will ultimately depend on a few different factors, including how many teeth you want to address, the severity of the issue you are looking to correct, current oral health, and more. But generally speaking, porcelain veneers can cost around $2,200 for each veneer, which includes everything from the in-depth evaluation, digital impressions/scanning, custom-engineered veneers, lab costs, etc.

But before any treatment is started, we will provide you with specific pricing so you know all the costs upfront. We can also provide you with financing options to break down the cost into monthly payments if that is easier for you.

What Is The Procedure Like?

The process for porcelain veneers is a straightforward one and looks like this:

  • Initial Consultation: In this appointment, we’ll take a thorough look at your teeth to determine if you are eligible for porcelain veneers. Using advanced digital imaging, we will then create a digital preview of what your smile will look like after treatment. This helps to customize and confirm the look and feel of your veneers and determine if this is the right approach for you. In this visit we often do a Smile Test Drive directly in your mouth to give you an idea of exactly how veneers could look for you.
  • Digital Impressions: Once we’ve determined you are a good fit for dental veneers, the next step is to take a digital impression of your teeth. This will then be sent to a specialized lab who will engineer your custom veneers. We will also place temporary veneers on your teeth to protect them while the final veneers are being processed.
  • Second Appointment: Once the porcelain veneers are ready, you will come back to our office to complete the procedure. Your brand new veneers will be bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth, allowing you to walk away with a brand new smile!

How Long Do Veneers Last?

When created with the right materials and cared for with good oral hygiene, porcelain veneers can last 15-20 years, or even longer. Just like a lot of things in life, the better you care for them, the longer they will last. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing daily, and having your dental exam every 6 months to keep watch on the overall health of your teeth.

What Are The Risks & Limitations of Veneers?

Veneers sometimes require a small amount of reshaping to your teeth in order to place the veneers and ensure that they align naturally with your gum line. This reshaping is not reversible so if you are looking for a more temporary fix, then dental veneers are probably not for you. This is one of the things we can discuss more in depth at your appointment to help you make the best decision possible.

Although porcelain veneers are very strong and resistant to cracks, they are not indestructible. It’s important to recognize that your ability to take good care of your veneers (and other teeth) plays a big part in maintaining pristine veneers.

Will Veneers Look Natural?

Yes! In fact, most people are not able to tell that they are veneers. Because of our ability to match the shape, size, and color of your veneers, the results look very natural. I pride myself on my ability to create smiles that are both beautiful and realistic. Look at our before and after pictures to see what I mean.

Can Veneers Fix My Dental Concerns?

Porcelain veneers are probably one of the most versatile solutions to elevating your smile. Because of their ability to cover gaps, cracks, gummy smiles, stains and discolorations, they are often the preferred choice for cosmetic treatment. While they can’t fix everything, they are one of the best solutions to transforming your smile in a fast, comfortable way.

Reviews from Patients

Even though I think that our office is hands-down the best dental office this side of the Mississippi, I also recognize that I’m a bit biased. (No surprise)

But here are just a few of the dozens of testimonials we’ve received from patients about their experience in our office:
