What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a simple procedure designed to improve the appearance of your teeth by concealing imperfections and repairing damage. Dental bonding can hide such dental issues as cracks or chips, yellowed or discolored teeth, decay and cavities, and gaps between teeth. With dental bonding a durable, tooth-colored resin is customized to the desired shade and applied to the tooth in a putty form. The putty-like resin is then molded to the tooth. Next, a special ultra violet light or laser is placed to set and harden the resin. After this process, the hard resin is polished and shaped to blend with the surrounding teeth and create a beautiful, flawless smile.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a great solution for quickly and effectively adding strength and improving the aesthetics of your teeth. The process requires less time than porcelain veneers or dental crown treatments, which often require two dentist visits. The dental bonding process can be completed in one dentist visit and can take as little as 30 minutes to an hour per tooth. Dental bonding not only saves time, but it also saves your tooth enamel. Less enamel needs to be removed in the dental bonding process than with porcelain veneer or dental crown placement.

Dental bonding can treat an array of dental problems. If you suffer from one or more of these issues, dental bonding may be the right solution for you.

  • Discolored, stained, or yellowed teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Small or irregularly shaped teeth
  • Cavities and decay

The tooth-colored resin used in dental bonding seamlessly blends with your teeth so when you smile people will see perfectly white teeth.

Dental Bonding Alternatives

For our patients inLas Vegas, porcelain veneers or crowns may be more suitable to your dental needs. If more than one tooth requires treatment for cosmetic flaws, porcelain veneers may be your best option; veneers are thin, tooth-shaped shells that fit over the teeth to cover flaws. Crowns may be the appropriate treatment option if the tooth or teeth are damaged in terms of health and appearance; crowns fit over the tooth to provide support and mask imperfections. We invite you to set up an appointment at our office so we can examine your mouth and determine the best course of treatment.
